What Crochet Stitch Is This? Identify It From a Picture

Identify crochet pattern instantly with AI-powered image recognition

Overview

Upload a close-up photo of a crochet piece, a swatch or a picture you found online. The AI looks at stitch height, the V shapes and bars on the front, posts, clusters and how the rows are built, then names the most likely stitch or technique, with the clues it used and a confidence level. It does not write a row-by-row pattern, stitch counts or gauge, and it cannot find the original pattern a piece was made from.

Features

Basic stitches

Tells single, half double, double and treble crochet apart by stitch height and the bars across each post.

Textured stitches and techniques

Looks for bobbles, puffs, popcorns, shells, V-stitch, moss (linen) stitch, waffle and post stitches, and techniques such as amigurumi spirals, C2C and tapestry colourwork.

A confidence level

Some stitches look alike in a photo. A low confidence level tells you to take a closer photo or check a stitch dictionary.

How It Works

1

Take a close-up

Lay the piece flat in daylight, out of direct sun. Photograph a few rows straight on and keep the stitches in sharp focus.

2

Upload the photo

The AI checks stitch height, V marks and bars, posts, clusters and whether the piece is worked in rows, rounds or diagonal tiles.

3

Get the stitch name

You get the most likely stitch or technique, the clues behind it and a confidence level.
