Most people can name only a small share of the jobs that exist. This random job generator picks real occupations for you, from any field or from one you choose, and gives each a one-line description and the usual way into it. Use it for career ideas, to give a character a profession, or for a classroom activity.

How the random job generator works

Choose a field - healthcare, tech, skilled trades, creative, business, science, public service or outdoors - or leave it on 'Any field' for the widest spread. Pick what the list is for and how many jobs you want, from one to eight. Each result has a job title, a sentence on what the person does day to day, the usual education or training path, and one extra line that matches your purpose.

A random career generator for job ideas

If you are choosing a first career or thinking about a change, random suggestions can surface options you would not have searched for. Treat each result as a prompt for research, not as advice. Read about the occupation, look for people who do it, and ask what a normal week looks like. For a guided conversation about your skills and next steps, talk to the Career Coach.

Where to find pay and outlook

The generator does not show salary figures, because pay differs by location, employer and experience and changes every year. For the United States, the Bureau of Labor Statistics publishes the Occupational Outlook Handbook, which describes what workers do, typical entry-level education, pay and job outlook for hundreds of occupations. Look up any job from your list there.

Jobs for story characters, games and classrooms

A character's work shapes their schedule, their skills and the people they meet. Choose 'Character for a story' and each random occupation comes with a story hook - a detail of the job that could start a plot. 'Game / role-play' adds a skill or tool the character would have. Pair a job with a name from the Character Name Generator to sketch a character in a minute. Teachers can use the random occupation generator for career exploration. Generate a list, give each student or group one job, and have them research the training required and present what they find. The 'Classroom activity' option adds a discussion question to each job.

Questions

Is the random job generator free?

Yes. It is free to use, and you can run it again for a different set of jobs.

Are these real jobs?

The tool is instructed to choose occupations that exist today. Job titles and requirements vary between employers and countries, so check the details for where you live.

Does it show salaries?

No. For pay and job outlook in the United States, use the Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook, and check local sources elsewhere.

Can it tell me which career is right for me?

No. It suggests job ideas at random. It does not know your skills or situation, so use the results as starting points for your own research.

Are the education paths exact?

They are described in general terms, such as an apprenticeship or a bachelor's degree. Licensing and entry requirements differ by state and country, so confirm them with an official source.
