Perfume is easy to choose once you know your scent family. Tell the finder the smells you love and hate, when you'll wear it and how strong you like it, and it names your families, the notes to read on a label and how to test before you spend.
Scent families, explained
Fresh and citrus scents feel clean and bright; florals and fruity ones are soft and pretty; gourmands smell like dessert; woody, amber and leather scents are warm and deep. Most people love one or two families and dislike another, and that is enough to shop well.
Eau de toilette or eau de parfum?
More perfume oil means a stronger, longer-lasting scent. If you want something close to the skin for the office, a lighter concentration is usually the better buy.
Always sample first
A perfume changes over a few hours on skin. Wear a sample for a full day before buying a bottle - the finder explains how.
Questions
Is this a fragrance quiz?
Yes. It works like a scent quiz, but you answer in your own words, so it can pick up specific smells like fig or rain.
Does it recommend specific perfumes?
It focuses on families and notes, and may mention widely sold bottles only as examples worth sampling. Nothing here is sponsored.
