PSL Scale Explained: What PSL 3, 4, 5 and 8 Mean

The PSL scale from 1 to 8, one short section per level, with the tier names the looksmax community uses - and a quick photo test at the end.

Overview

The PSL scale is a 1 to 8 rating used in the looksmax community, named after three early forums (PUAhate, SlutHate and Lookism) and usually read as "Pretty Scale Looks". It is deliberately harsher than an everyday 1-10 rating, which is why people are surprised by their result: a 5 here is roughly a 6 or 7 on a casual scale, and most of the population sits in the 5s. This page explains what each level actually means, level by level, so you can read a score someone else gave you or interpret your own. Each level has a tier name, a rough share of the population, and what it tends to look like. If you want to find your own level, the quick test on this page reads one photo and places you on the same scale.

Features

PSL 1 - bottom of the scale

Rarely used in practice. It implies severe asymmetry or a feature that reads as unusual at a glance. Most scores people assume are 1s are actually 3s or 4s given in bad faith.

PSL 2 - well below average

Still inside the Sub5 tier. Several features read as weak at the same time, usually a recessed lower face combined with poor symmetry. Genuinely uncommon.

PSL 3 - noticeably below average

The lowest score that appears often. PSL 3 means more than one feature reads as weak rather than neutral. Skin, hair and grooming, and body fat move scores in this range more than anywhere else on the scale, because there is the most room to move.

PSL 4 - low-tier normie (LTN)

PSL 4 is slightly below average: nothing stands out as a flaw, and nothing stands out as a strength either. A common honest result. Grooming, a haircut suited to your face shape and a better photo angle can read as a half point or more.

PSL 5 - mid-tier normie (MTN)

PSL 5 is average, and the single most common result. Features are balanced and in proportion without being striking. Roughly a 6 or 7 on an everyday 1-10 scale, which is why a "5" feels harsher than it is.

PSL 6 - high-tier normie (HTN)

PSL 6 is clearly above average: good bone structure, decent symmetry, and at least one feature strong enough to notice. Well into the top slice of the population and the realistic ceiling for most people who looksmax well.

PSL 7 - Chadlite and Chad

PSL 7.0 to 7.4 is Chadlite and 7.5 to 7.9 is Chad. Strong structure across the whole face with no weak feature, which is why it is rare in an unedited photo. This is roughly where working models sit.

PSL 8 - Giga, the top of the scale

PSL 8 is the ceiling and is close to theoretical. It means every feature reads as strong at once. Scores of 8 handed out casually online are almost always inflated, filtered or a joke.

How It Works

1

Find the level you were given

Read the section for that number above. The tier name matters more than the decimal: PSL 5.2 and PSL 5.8 are both mid-tier normie.

2

Translate it to an everyday scale

Add roughly one to two points to compare with a casual 1-10 rating. PSL 5 is around a 6 or 7 to most people who have never heard of PSL.

3

Take the quick test if you want your own level

Upload one front-facing photo in soft light. The test places you on the same 1 to 8 scale and names your tier.

4

Read the level, not the decimal

Photo conditions move a result by a few tenths. Treat the tier as the signal and the decimal as noise.

Use Cases

Reading a score someone gave you

A forum rated you and the number means nothing without context. Look up the level and its tier here before reacting to it.

Key Benefits:

  • •Context for a bare number
  • •Shows how harsh the scale really is

Setting a realistic target

Knowing that PSL 6 is the realistic ceiling for most people who looksmax well keeps goals honest.

Key Benefits:

  • •Avoids chasing a theoretical 8
  • •Shows what each step up requires
