A two weeks notice letter tells your employer in writing that you are leaving and when your last day will be. Enter your name, job title, company and last working day, pick a tone, and the generator writes a short letter and an email version you can edit. It uses only the details you type in and leaves a [placeholder] wherever something is missing.

What a two weeks notice letter must contain

Keep it to a few short paragraphs. It needs the date you are handing it in, your manager's name, a clear sentence that you are resigning from your position, and your last working day written as a full date. After that, a line of thanks and an offer to help with the handover are standard. You do not have to give a reason, and you do not have to say where you are going. Sign it with your full name. Leave out complaints, salary talk and anything you would not want read back to you in a reference check.

Is two weeks notice required by law?

In the United States, two weeks is a professional custom rather than a legal rule in most cases, because most jobs are at-will. The exception is when you signed something that sets a notice period, such as an employment contract or an agreement tied to a bonus or unused vacation payout. Outside the US the rules are different: in the UK, for example, employees who have worked a month or more must give at least one week, and contracts often ask for longer. Check your contract or employee handbook before you choose your last day.

Letter or two week notice email?

Both are accepted in most workplaces. A printed or PDF letter suits formal employers and gives HR a document for your file. A two week notice email is normal for remote teams and smaller companies, and it gives you a time-stamped record. Either way, tell your manager in a conversation first and send the written notice straight after. The tool gives you both versions with the same facts so you can use whichever fits.

How to use this 2 weeks notice template

Fill in the three text boxes, choose warm, neutral or brief, and add a note if you want to mention a reason or thank someone. Read the result, replace any [placeholders], and check the date against a calendar - the tool never works out dates for you. If you need a longer or more detailed letter, for example when leaving a senior role, try the Resignation Letter Generator.

Questions

How do I count two weeks?

Count 14 calendar days from the day you hand in your notice, which is usually 10 working days. Many people give notice on a Monday or Friday so the last day falls at the end of a work week. Type the exact date you want into the last working day box.

Do I have to explain why I am leaving?

No. A simple statement that you are resigning is enough. If you want to give a reason, add it in the optional note and keep it short and neutral.

Can my employer ask me to leave before the two weeks are up?

It can happen. Some employers end the job on the day notice is given, especially in roles with access to client or financial data. Whether you are paid for the notice period depends on your contract, company policy and local law, so check those before you resign.

Who should I send the letter to?

Address it to your direct manager. Many companies also want a copy sent to HR, so look at your handbook or ask your manager once you have told them.

Is the two weeks notice letter generator free?

Yes, it is free to use. The letter is a draft built from your own details, so read it through and edit it before you send it.
