Wondering what tree is in your yard, park or trail? Upload a photo of its leaves, bark, fruit, cones or the whole tree and get its name, the features that prove it, its look-alikes, how big it grows and what to know before planting one.
Leaves, bark or the whole tree
Leaves and needles are the clearest clue: their shape, edges and whether they sit opposite or alternate on the twig. In winter, bark, buds and the crown shape still work. Tell the tool what the photo shows, or let it work it out.
Oaks, maples, pines and more
The tool covers common street, garden and forest trees such as oaks, maples, birches, pines, spruces, elms, ashes and fruit trees, and tells close relatives apart, for example a white oak from a red oak by the leaf lobes.
Before you plant
Each answer adds mature height, growth speed and native range, plus one watch-out such as roots near foundations or a known disease, so you can judge whether it suits your space.
Questions
Is it free to use?
Yes. Runs are paced rather than sold, so heavy use in a short window can mean a short wait before the next one.
Can it identify a tree from bark alone?
Often, but bark is harder than leaves. If the answer comes back Medium or Low, add a photo of a leaf, bud or fruit.
What photo works best?
A sharp, well-lit photo where the plant fills most of the frame. A close-up of one leaf or flower plus a second run on the whole plant gives the surest answer.
Do you keep my photo?
The photo is sent to the AI model to read it and is not shown to anyone else or added to a public gallery.
