Not sure what breed your dog is, or what mix your shelter pup might be? Upload a photo and this dog breed identifier names the most likely breed or mix, shows the features that point to it, such as coat, ears, muzzle and build, and lists similar breeds it ruled out. You also get a quick look at the size, energy and grooming needs of that breed.

How the dog breed identifier works

The AI studies coat colour and length, ear shape, muzzle, body build, tail and size cues. It gives one best guess, says how sure it is and names the clues so you can compare them with breed photos yourself.

Photos that give a better answer

Show the whole dog, standing or sitting, in daylight and from the side. A second shot of the face helps with ears and muzzle. Add age, weight and where you got the dog in the notes box, since those narrow the guess.

Mixed breeds are hard

A photo can suggest a likely mix, but it cannot read genes. Two dogs with the same parents can look quite different. For a reliable answer, a DNA test or your vet is the way to be sure, and the tool tells you this each time.

What to do with the answer

Use the breed basics to plan exercise, grooming and vet checks, and read about the breed before you decide on training or food. For behavior or health worries, a vet or a trainer can see your own dog in person.

Questions

Is the dog breed identifier free?

Yes, it is free to use. Runs are paced rather than sold, so heavy use in a short window can mean a short wait.

What photo works best?

A sharp, well-lit photo of the whole dog, from the side, plus a face shot. Add age and weight in the notes.

Can it identify a mixed breed?

It can suggest a likely mix, but a photo cannot confirm it. A DNA test or a vet can.

Does it work for puppies?

Yes, but puppies change as they grow, so the guess is less certain. Try again when the dog is older.

Can it tell me if my dog is a dangerous breed?

No. Breed alone does not decide behavior. For worries about behavior, talk to a trainer or a vet.

Can I use it for cats?

This tool is made for dogs. A cat photo will get a note asking for a dog photo.
