PSL Scale Explained: Tiers, Chart and How to Check Your Rating
What the PSL scale is, what each tier means (Sub5, LTN, MTN, HTN, Chadlite, Chad), why scores run lower than 1-10, and how to check your own PSL rating from a photo.
What the PSL scale is
PSL is an informal facial-aesthetics scale from looksmax communities. The letters are usually traced to the PUAHate, Sluthate and Lookism forums where it took shape. It is a shared vocabulary for describing faces, not a scientific test: there is no official formula, no governing body and no validated reference population, and different sites draw the tier lines slightly differently.
Why PSL scores run lower than a 1-10 rating
The scale is usually read from 1 to 8, and its anchors are professional models, so ordinary faces land lower than they would on a casual 1-10. A face most people would call a 7 out of 10 often sits around 5-6 PSL. Most people fall in the middle tiers, and the top tier is reserved for very rare faces.
The PSL tier chart
These are the bands our PSL rating tool uses. Other sites move the lines by half a point or so, but the order of the tiers is the same everywhere.
- Sub5 (1.0-3.9): below the normie range
- LTN, low-tier normie (4.0-4.9)
- MTN, mid-tier normie (5.0-5.9): where most people land
- HTN, high-tier normie (6.0-6.9): clearly above average
- Chadlite (7.0-7.4): model-adjacent structure
- Chad (7.5-7.9): top-tier structure and harmony
- Giga (8.0): extremely rare, mostly a meme ceiling
What the scale looks at
Raters weigh structure more than styling: jawline and chin, the eye area (canthal tilt, upper eyelid exposure, brow position), midface and nose, lips, skin, and overall symmetry and harmony. Grooming, hair and photo quality still move a rating, which is why the same person can score differently from two photos.
How to check your PSL rating
You can ask a forum, compare yourself with reference faces, or use an AI rater. For an AI rating that is as stable as possible, use the same kind of photo every time.
- One face, looking straight at the camera, neutral expression
- Even, soft light from the front, with no strong shadows or filters
- Camera at eye level and about an arm length away (close selfies distort the nose and jaw)
- Hair off the forehead and eyebrows if you want those features scored
- Upload it to the PSL rating tool for a 1-8 score, your tier and seven feature scores
How to read your result
Treat the number as a rough, entertainment-level read of one photo, not a verdict on you. The feature scores are the useful part: they show which areas (skin, grooming, hair, photo angle) you can actually improve. A PSL tier says nothing about personality, health or worth, and it does not predict how people will treat you.
