Name the fandom, list the characters, describe the premise and choose a genre. This fanfiction generator writes an original scene of about 300 to 750 words, lists the tropes it used and suggests two ways the story could go on.

What fanfiction is

Fanfiction is a story written by a fan using the characters or world of an existing book, show, film or game. It fills in missing scenes, asks what would have happened if one event had gone differently, or moves familiar characters somewhere new. Fan works are transformative hobby writing, usually shared for enjoyment and not for sale. The characters and settings remain the property of their owners; what you add is your own plot and your own words.

Tropes and AU explained

Fandom has its own vocabulary. Canon is what happens in the source; fanon is what fans widely assume. An AU, or alternate universe, keeps the characters and changes the setting or a key event - a coffee shop AU, a modern AU, or a canon divergence where one decision changes everything. Hurt/comfort means one character is injured or upset and another looks after them. Slow burn is a romance that builds gradually. Found family is a group of unrelated characters who become a family. A fix-it rewrites an ending fans disliked, a crossover joins two fandoms, a one-shot is a complete story in a single chapter, and an OC is an original character you invent.

Tips for fan fiction ideas and prompts

The more specific the premise, the better the story. Give a situation, a place and a problem: 'They are snowed in at a mountain inn and one of them is hiding a letter' works better than 'something cute'. Say which characters you want and how they feel about each other at the start. For an AU, state the new setting. Mention the point in the timeline if it matters. If you leave the premise empty, the generator invents one to suit the genre. Need someone new in the cast? The Character Name Generator can name an original character.

What this AI fanfic generator will and will not write

Stories are kept suitable for teens: no explicit sexual content and no graphic violence. Romance is written only between adult characters and stays non-explicit. If a named character is a minor, the tool writes friendship or adventure instead of romance. It does not write about real people. It writes new prose and is instructed not to copy text from the source work. It does not look the source up, so with a lesser-known fandom it may get details wrong - add the facts that matter to your premise. Questions

Which fandoms can I use?

Any fictional book, show, film, comic or game. Results are stronger for well-known works. For smaller fandoms, describe the characters and setting in the premise box.

How long are the stories?

About 300, 500 or 750 words, depending on the length you choose. Use the next-scene ideas as the premise for another run to build a longer story chapter by chapter.

Can I post the story online?

Fan communities have their own rules, and some ask you to label AI-assisted writing. Read the rules of the site where you want to post, and edit the draft so the final story reflects your own ideas and voice.

Can it write about real celebrities?

No. The tool writes about fictional characters only.

Is the fanfiction generator free?

Yes, it is free to use.
