AI chemistry tutor for theory, calculations and organic chemistry

Chemistry mixes ideas you have to picture with calculations you have to get exactly right. This chemistry tutor explains both: it shows the reasoning behind a concept and then works through the numbers one step at a time.

What the chemistry tutor helps with

General chemistry topics include atomic structure and electron configuration, periodic trends, ionic and covalent bonding, Lewis structures and molecular shape, naming compounds, balancing equations, moles and molar mass, stoichiometry and limiting reactants, molarity and dilutions, the gas laws, thermochemistry, reaction rates, equilibrium, acids, bases and pH, and redox reactions. As an organic chemistry tutor it explains functional groups, naming rules, isomers and common reaction mechanisms such as substitution and elimination.

How a session works

The tutor asks your level and the exact question, then teaches the method rather than only giving a result. For a calculation it lists what is given, sets up the conversion or equation, and keeps the units in every step so you can see them cancel. Then it asks a short follow-up question and offers a practice problem of the same kind. Formulas are written in plain text, such as H2O and CO2, and reactions use an arrow: ->.

A worked example: balancing CH4 + O2 -> CO2 + H2O

Start with carbon: one C on each side, so CH4 and CO2 each keep a coefficient of 1. Next hydrogen: CH4 has 4 H, so you need 2 H2O on the right. Now count oxygen on the right: 2 in CO2 plus 2 in 2 H2O makes 4, so you need 2 O2 on the left. Balanced equation: CH4 + 2 O2 -> CO2 + 2 H2O. Check: C 1 and 1, H 4 and 4, O 4 and 4.

How to ask for chemistry help

Type the full question with all the numbers, units and formulas. Write subscripts as plain numbers (H2SO4) and charges with a sign (Na+, SO4 2-). For organic chemistry, give the name of the compound or describe the structure in words, for example 'a four-carbon chain with an OH group on carbon 2'. Say what you have tried, so the tutor can find where the method went off track.

Lab work and safety

The tutor can explain the theory behind a school experiment and help you understand your results or the calculations for a lab report. For procedures it gives only standard, school-level, safety-minded guidance, and your teacher's or lab's instructions always come first. It does not provide instructions for making dangerous, explosive or illegal substances.

Limits of an AI chemistry tutor

It is an AI and it can make mistakes, so check important answers with your teacher or textbook. It tells you when it is unsure. It is text only: it cannot read a photo of a structure or draw one, so structures are described in words. For related subjects, the Physics Tutor and Math Tutor work the same way.

FAQ

Is the AI chemistry tutor free?

Yes, you can chat for free. Tell it your level and type your question to begin.

Does it help with organic chemistry?

Yes. It explains functional groups, naming, isomers and common mechanisms in words, step by step. It cannot draw structures, so it describes them.

Can it help with my chemistry lab?

It can explain the theory and the calculations. For the procedure itself, follow the instructions and safety rules from your teacher or lab.

How do I calculate moles from grams?

Divide the mass by the molar mass. For example, water has a molar mass of about 18 g/mol, so 36 g of water is 36 / 18 = about 2 mol.

How do I type chemical formulas?

Use plain text: H2O, CO2, NaCl, and an arrow made of a hyphen and a greater-than sign for reactions.
