Mad libs are the word game where someone asks for an adjective, a noun or a silly sound, writes the answers into a story they have not seen, and everyone laughs at the result. This mad libs generator writes a new story every time, on a theme you pick, for young kids, older kids or adults.
Two ways to play
A word list and a story to fill gives you the list of word types and the story with numbered blanks, ready to play with a group or print for a class. A story with my words works the other way round: type your words in order, separated by commas, and get the finished story with your words in bold.
How to play mad libs with friends
One person holds the story and reads out the word list: 'Give me an adjective. Now a food. Now a body part.' Write each answer into its numbered blank without letting anyone see the story, then read the whole thing out loud. The less the answers fit, the funnier it gets.
Mad libs for kids and classrooms
Choose Young kids or Kids for short sentences and easy word types like a color, an animal or a number. Teachers use mad libs to practice nouns, verbs and adjectives, because children have to know what each word type is before they can fill the blank.
Twelve themes, or a surprise
Pick a school day, a zoo trip, a birthday party, a space adventure, a camping trip, a superhero mission, a pirate treasure hunt, a holiday dinner, a sports match, a haunted house or a first day at work. Or leave it on Surprise me for something new.
Questions
Is the mad libs generator free?
Yes. You can make mad libs without paying. Signing in keeps a history of your stories.
How many blanks does a story have?
Pick Short for 8 blanks or Long for 15. Short works well for young kids and quick rounds, long for a bigger group.
Can I use my own words?
Yes. Choose 'A story with my words' and type them in order, separated by commas. Every word appears in the story in bold.
Is it good for school?
Yes. The stories are family friendly and the word list uses grammar words like noun, verb, adjective and adverb, so it doubles as parts of speech practice.
Are the stories new each time?
Yes. Each story is written fresh from your choices, so you can play again and again.
