Paying off debt is easier with a clear order and a finish line. List each debt's balance, APR and minimum, enter what you can pay each month, and get a snowball or avalanche plan with milestones and an estimate of total interest.
Debt snowball: quick wins
Pay minimums on everything, then put every extra dollar toward the smallest balance. When it is gone, roll its payment into the next smallest. Early wins keep many people motivated.
Debt avalanche: least interest
Put extra money toward the highest-APR debt first. It usually costs less in total interest and can finish sooner, especially with high-rate credit cards. Choose 'Compare both' to see the difference with your own numbers.
Ways to pay off debt faster
Direct tax refunds and bonuses to the target debt, ask card issuers for a lower rate, and weigh a 0% balance transfer carefully, including its fee and what happens when the promo ends. Freeing up cash in the Monthly Budget Planner speeds everything up.
Estimates, not statements
Real payoff dates depend on how each lender calculates interest and on any new charges. Use the plan as a roadmap and check your statements each month.
Questions
Snowball or avalanche - which is better?
Avalanche usually saves more interest; snowball gives faster early wins. The best one is the plan you will stick with.
Is this financial advice?
No. It is general information and rough estimates. For your specific situation, talk to a qualified financial professional or a nonprofit credit counselor.
Should I include my mortgage?
Most people leave the mortgage out and focus on consumer debt first, but you can add it if you want a full picture.
